6 days! I feel a sense of accomplishment. I am starting a new habit and I’m making progress! I realized after having a ridiculous argument with my husband over who spends more time on the cell phone that I was really addicted to it. Addicted to the mindless scrolling through emails and social media posts, addicted to all the “happening now” news details, and addicted to the positive feeling I have when something I post gets a lot of “likes”- really? Embarrassing but true.
Since I am currently writing a book about how to prioritize my personal quiet-time in order to refresh and rekindle my relationship with God, I came face to face with the need to “seek Him first” (Matthew 6:33 NASB.) If I’m going to tell others it is important, then I must be willing to do it myself, right? So I decided that I will not touch my phone (unless an emergency call comes through), until after I have had my quiet-time. I knew I had become addicted to my phone when I kept reaching for it the first thing after waking up each morning, and it wasn’t the bible app that I was going for!
Let’s see, 21 days to start a new habit, 21-6 = 15 days to go! But hold on! According to an article by Melissa Dahl (From TODAY Health and Wellness, Jan. 2015), not only does it take longer than 21 days for most people to develop a new habit, the average time is 66 days, and for some as long as 254 days!
So it looks like I have a few days to go! Keep tuned in and I will let you know of my progress and when the new habit takes hold. And maybe, when I post that, just maybe I’ll get a few “likes”!
Anybody care to join me in this 21-254-day challenge? I’d love to hear your comments!
